Step into the history of a Cornish community
Why the pop-up museum?
When Lawrence House Museum closed because of the Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020, the curator and volunteers did not realise that it would prove impossible to re-open as soon as restrictions allowed.
During the period the museum was closed, damage mainly caused by damp occurred to the fabric of the building resulting in its temporary closure for repairs. To enable local residents and visitors to continue to connect with selections from the main museum collection, the idea of a “pop-up” museum was proposed to continue to showcase Lawrence House but in miniature.
Lawrence House Pop-Up Museum opened in the Merchant’s House at 11 High Street Launceston in September 2021 and will be open until visitors can return to the Grade 2* National Trust House in Castle Street. A programme of rolling exhibitions is underway so there will always be something new to see.
