12 Sep 2023 – 11 Nov 2023
Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 4pm
Pop-Up Museum, Merchant's House, 13 High Street, Launceston PL15 8ERFree
Normally there are between sixty and seventy volunteers working for the Museum in Lawrence House, as stewards, or helping behind the scenes and in the garden. Without them the Museum could not function and between them they ensure that the house and garden are beautifully presented and always welcoming to visitors from the town and further afield.
While the main Museum building is closed for restoration, this Pop-up Museum has been keeping the Museum alive in the town. The stewards are on duty in the Pop-up instead of the main building and the helpers continue to work behind the scenes. The gardeners are planning for the day when all the volunteers can return to Lawrence House and the Museum and garden can be re-opened to the public.
The Operations Team of around a dozen people, who care for and research the Museum’s extensive collection of some 18,000 items, normally refresh the permanent exhibitions and also mount a series of temporary exhibitions in Lawrence House throughout the season. They have put together the exhibition you see here in the Pop-up to showcase the Museum’s collection of varied and fascinating items, which will again be available for display once the building reopens.
We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
