Volunteering at Lawrence House has many benefits aside from learning and sharing the history of the town. From expanding your network of friends and contacts to improving your CV the museum’s community is supportive.
The volunteers keep in touch through the Carrier Pigeon e-Newsletter and have coffee mornings and lunches throughout the year.
Roles
We have a number of roles that we always looking to fill with enthusiastic volunteers. So whether you are interested in research, collection care, gardening or a more public-facing role please get in touch.
Museum Operations Team
A small core team of volunteers help the curator in the museum with cataloguing, research, conservation and care of the objects. We are always looking for help from people with experience in these areas. The operation team works two full days per week.
Museum Project Volunteers
The museum runs various projects related to researching the town’s history. The major ongoing project is concentrating efforts to researching lesser-known, but no less important, individuals from the town between 1850-1950. If you have a keen interest in local history this could be a great opportunity to undertake some research in a supportive environment.
Garden Volunteers
The gardens are an important part of the museum and a small group of volunteers work hard to make them look fantastic each year. If you know your Alstroemerias from your Azaleas this could be an opportunity to volunteer in a garden with an incredible view. The garden volunteers work in the gardens one morning per week.
Stewards
The stewards are charged with caring for our visitors as well as keeping a watchful eye on the objects on display. Many are veritable encyclopaedias of knowledge relating to Launceston’s past and enjoy making the visitors experience a fun and engaging one. Volunteers usually steward one morning or afternoon per week.
