Charles Causley – Lauceston’s Poet
Charles Causley – “the best poet laureate we never had”
The exhibition of the life and work of local poet, Charles Causley, is almost certainly the most comprehensive exhibit devoted to Causley ever to be put together.
Included is a rare edition of his first-ever published work, a one-act play entitled “Runaway”, published when he was only nineteen years of age. There is also a full-size drawing, reproduced with the permission of the renowned illustrator, Ralph Steadman illustrating Causley’s best-loved poem “Timothy Winters”
Also on display are Causley’s Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry from 1967 and his CBE from 1987.
The exhibition demonstrates the breadth of Causley’s work over a period of nearly 70 years and clearly shows the love he had for his hometown.
