On display on the lower ground floor, in the Exhibition Room, in the top drawer in the coin cabinet
Launceston did have its own Mint from before 1066. William I, otherwise William the Conqueror or William the Bastard, depending on whose side you were on, ordered the building of the motte and bailey castle which gives Launceston its distinctive skyline and maybe this coin started its life here.
It was purchased for the Museum with the help of the Victoria and Albert Purchase Fund and the Cornish Heritage Trust and the generosity of Mr & Mrs C Bowles and the Friends of Lawrence House Museum.
