I am sad to report that the museum will not open on the 1st July as we had hoped. This is due to problems with the fabric of the museum building. The Town Council are in the process of appointing a project manager to oversee works to the building (major works are scheduled for early next year). As a result, at the moment, we have no firm date for reopening.
However, on a more positive note, the Trustees are looking into the exciting possibility of opening a “pop-up” museum. They are keen to take on a vacant premises in the town centre for the duration of the refurbishment at Lawrence House. This will enable us to keep the museum visible, to continue to showcase the town’s history and mount exhibitions. We are also exploring options for opening the museum gardens from time to time.
I will keep you all posted on developments as they happen.
